My name is Robert Gerrish and I am running for Caledonia County Sheriff.
We choose our sheriff’s department with our votes. Law enforcement requires real experience and real leadership to be effective. I have the experience, training and motivation to serve our county. If you choose to elect me as Caledonia County Sheriff, you can be confident you will be served by a qualified and dedicated sheriff who will professionally lead the department and make our community safer.

This election is basically a lengthy job interview, so you probably want to know a bit about me before entrusting me with your vote for Caledonia County Sheriff.
Law enforcement is what I do. It is my calling. It is my passion. I make the community safer … and have been doing this, with distinction, since 2014.
I started my Vermont law enforcement career with the Caledonia County Sheriff's Department in 2014. I was named the Sheriff's Department Deputy of the Year in 2017.
I went to work as a Police Officer serving the people of St. Johnsbury (2019 - 2023) and Lyndon (2023 - present). I responded to what I estimate are thousands of incidents and logged about a thousand arrests, so far, during my career. I’ve been told I do not know when to quit – I take that as a compliment. Whether I am writing search warrants, locating fugitives or taking guns and drugs off the street, I do not stop.
Since 2023, you have placed your trust in me by electing me twice as High Bailiff of Caledonia County. A high bailiff is a unique Vermont position, responsible for temporarily assuming the functions of sheriff during any vacancy in office. I had the sad duty of fulfilling this responsibility in 2025 after the passing of our former Sheriff. I ask for your support again to make Caledonia County a safer place.
I graduated from the Vermont Police Academy in 2019 with the Highest Academic Achievement Award.
I continually seek out more training to better protect and serve our community.
I became a Drug Recognition Expert - one of the most challenging and difficult certifications a police officer can achieve - in order to assist in removing drug impaired drivers from our roads. I was also granted the 2024 Vermont Highway Safety Drug Recognition Award.
I earned a Certified Fraud Examiner certificate in order to better assist those in our community victimized by complex frauds.
I became a Field Training Officer to guide and mentor the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
I am certified as a RADAR instructor, LIDAR instructor, DUI instructor and TASER instructor. I have been honored to teach related skills to new recruits at the police academy several times.
I am recognized as a Death Investigator, a certification awarded to law enforcement professionals who attend to deceased individuals and investigate their passing.
Master of Arts, Criminal Justice
Caledonia County is not only where I work and serve. It’s also my home.
I live in Lyndon, Vermont with my wonderful wife Ashley, our two energetic daughters, and a flock of industrious chickens. Sometimes you might find me at Dog Mountain with our beagles, Rufus and Beau. I’m happy to live here!
